Failure and Zechariah 3

“I’m a failure.

Complete. Failure.”

Do these thoughts repeat in your head? Does a laundry list of mishaps, errors, and poor judgment seem to stretch a mile long?

For me it does. Those are my words too.

When thoughts of failure run rampant, stealing my identity, I live defeated.

The more I hear the lies, the more I think them. The more I think them, the more I believe them. The more I believe them, the more I live them. The more I live them, the more defeated I feel, which causes me to believe the lies on a deeper level.

It’s not the truth.

Zechariah 3

Why do I often fall for the enemy’s schemes? God lead me to Zechariah chapter 3. Let me just say “WOW.”

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments. And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.” And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the Lord was standing by.

And the angel of the Lord solemnly assured Joshua, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: If you will walk in my ways and keep my charge, then you shall rule my house and have charge of my courts… and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.”

Soak in the vision for a minute.

When we listen to the lies and accusations of the evil one, we put on our filthy clothes. And hold them tight around us. Believer – you have already been washed! Our iniquity is away from us. But we stop seeing ourselves as forgiven and we walk in our past sins. Even the ones we’ve confessed and put away. That is guilt. (not from God.)

Throw off the filthy rags and allow the courts of heaven to clothe you with clean garments.

When you feel unworthy to lead, even your family, don’t ask yourself if you are worthy or where your failure status is currently – ask yourself,

“Am I walking in God’s ways?”

Embrace the robe and headdress – the garments of the high priest. *The headdress was inscribed with “Holy to the Lord.”

Wear it proudly.

Because you are.

Holy to the Lord.

Not a failure.

Now walk it.

Believe it.

Live it.

Because HE is enough. He is not a failure.

And neither are you.
